dpa were invited to participate again in the darc Night Awards, held on 15th September 2016 in London. This was a unique event held to celebrate the darc awards and to also showcase a series of light installations from collaborations between lighting designers and manufacturer partners.
Inner Iridescence is an installation that provokes a contrast of feelings. It’s dull, modular exterior is in stark contrast to the beautiful, random interior. This sharp change in atmosphere is designed to play with the users mood. The bright colours surprise and uplift the user as they move from the purposely drab environment, which incases the installation.
A key characteristic of the installation was the choice of materials. As this exhibition is temporary, it was very important that the materials were reusable and recyclable. With this thinking as a driver for the design, tin foil was chosen for it’s reflective properties and cost effectiveness. Readily available, simple cardboard boxes created the desired, familiar, unassuming facade.
The simplicity of the materials allows the high quality of the luminaires to be seen clearly. Overhead RGB spotlights and low level RGB linears immerse the cube in a full range of colours and reflections.
We are delighted that dpa project Hilton Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has been shortlisted for two awards in the FX Design Awards in the ‘Lighting Design’ and ‘Hotel’ categories.
The awards will be announced on 30th November 2016 so fingers crossed!
