Regency Wharf, Birmingham

< Back

The Regency Wharf site encompasses converted Victorian buildings adjacent to Birmingham’s canal side plus a mixed use new building with restaurant and office space. In between the two is an open area which provides a pedestrianised courtyard space.

This project consists of not only the external lighting to the buildings and circulation of Broad Street and Gas Street Basin area but additionally the illumination of two feature sculptures within this exciting redevelopment area.

The lighting has been designed to enhance this diverse variety of buildings whilst functionally illuminating the various routes and walkways promoting comfort and security during the hours of darkness.

The courtyard is home to a feature glass sculpture. Working closely with both artist and agent a bespoke fibre optic lighting system was carefully integrated into this stacked glass art piece. The lighting itself is invisible both during the day and night. End emitting fibre optics project light up through the sculpture’s central aperture creating a glowing tower of light. This attractive sculpture creates a focus to the surrounding urban courtyard and visual interest for the Al fresco diners and tenanted spaces above.
