The
interior lighting within the refurbished Billingsgate old market was
designed to meet the exacting demands of a large double height trading
floor, capable of accommodating up to 700 dealers.
Although completed over 20 years ago, the lighting still satisfies and
is in accordance with current best design practices and energy codes.
The design maximizes the use of natural daylight (whilst eliminating
problems of glare or heat gain from direct sunlight) with the artificial
lighting linked via an automated lighting control system to facilitate
daylight harnessing, and ensure that only the right quantity and quality
of illumination is provided when and wherever needed. The combination
of sensors and time clocks ensure that there is minimal energy wastage.
