In recognition of the duties and suffering that
many animals had to endure throughout warfare, a memorial to their valuable
contributions has been constructed in central London. The challenge
on this project was to create a fine balance between the illumination
of the mules and the background wall feature, whilst carefully integrating
and controlling appropriate lighting equipment in which to best highlight
this piece of civic sculpture.
The
animals are both uplit from recessed in-ground fixtures and spotlit
from luminaires concealed within the surrounding landscape. The selection
of lamp and colour filters was considered to best illustrate the true
colouring of the animals. The rear wall has been bathed with warm white
light so as to best compliment the texture of the stone.
