The external lighting of historic buildings requires the same level of sensitivity as the interiors. Intrinsically the element of importance is the building, which should be lit and enjoyed without intrusion from lighting equipment both during the day and at night. The lighting should emphasise appropriate architectural order, reveal detail and provide enjoyment to passers-by. This project fulfilled both the client and designer’s aspirations with carefully integrated lighting equipment selected for its photometric performance, the building is illuminated to reflect its architectural form and reveal its detail. The lighting using long life, low energy sources and an appropriate colour rendering is invisible during the day and at night creates an architectural point of enjoyment in this part of Oxford. |
