Shoreline Apartments, Dubai |

The recently completed Shoreline Apartments is the latest addition to the world famous Palm Jumeirah. Situated on the ‘Trunk’ of the palm, the strip of 20 prestigious apartment buildings is an eclectic blend of modern and traditional Arabic architecture. The exterior lighting design was a solution to the difficult challenge of creating a sense of arrival onto the Palm, emphasising and unifying the complex architecture in a cohesive manner, whilst providing a comfortable and quality environment for the residents. Integration and concealment of luminaires was an important element of the design, to dramatically highlight the structure without spill light or causing unwanted light glare discomfort to residents or neighbours. Long term maintenance was also a major factor helped by using long life lamps, minimising on numbers of different lamp types and locating in accessible positions. A subtle combination of warm and cool white metal halide lamps have been utilised to uplight the façade and turrets to differentiate the form and create interest. Luminaires with the same metal halide lamp types are also used to illuminate the inside of the turrets. Accent lighting to the domes, mushrabiya panels and niches are provided by concealed, long life cold cathode and the latest high efficacy recessed LED’s. A more traditional light effect was sought for the porte cocheres and vestibules. Here custom stylised lanterns were specified to provide the ambient light level and to throw dramatic patterns of light up into the domed ceilings and surrounds. Each lighting element for the exterior is separately
controlled via a timeclock, enabling all or part of the scheme to be
on at different times of the evening and night, thus ensuring maximum
savings on energy and maintenance costs. |
