Radcliffe Camera, Lower Reading Room, Oxford

< Back

dpa were comissioned to re-light the interior of one of Oxford University's most important architectural and historical buildings.

The internal arches and domes within the space were emphasised with carefully controlled uplighting and the bookshelves containing unique and valuable books were lit with fibre optic spotlights, to provide a discreet and sympathetic solution.

Working in close collaboration with the University Estates Office and a leading luminaire manufacturer, an appropriately scaled task light using mini-fluorescent lamps, was designed for the new desks. The design of which echoed the contours of the architecture.
