The new Raffles Hotel at the Wafi City, Dubai
is an eclectic ancient Egyptian and contemporary mix of styles.
It was important for the lighting to be seamlessly
integrated into the interior fabric of the building, concealed from
view where possible to enhance these spaces.
A lighting control system was used as an essential
tool to balance the lighting levels throughout the day and night. Energy
is an important issue in all projects with the control system enabling
specific lighting to be controlled during the day where natural daylight
is utilised over artificial. For the night time scenes carefully balanced
light levels in all spaces provide the appropriate and desirable ambience
needed in areas such as the Lobby, Café, Business Centre, Restaurants
and Bars. In addition, obviously, lamp life was vastly increased with
the use of dimming.
Lighting equipment was carefully selected for
specific uses to provide impact, accent and drama to the various spaces.
Lamp types were kept to a minimum to further improve the maintainability
of the lighting installation.
