Creative and dynamic lighting techniques were
fully explored to produce a facility with a unique character and identity
as required by the owners of health club. The appropriate application
of coloured light sources combining with cool white light resulted in
a most theatrical and vibrant interior. To further enhance the visual
experience, the varying lighting components were linked to a lighting
control system, which was fully utilised to create varying moods and
levels of ambience throughout the day. It was important to reinforce
the nature of the space with a stimulating atmosphere that was both
energetic and relaxing.
The success of the project was in the detailing
and installation of the architectural lighting. Where possible lighting
hardware was concealed and used to express ceiling and wall treatments
together with highlighting the spatial qualities of the interior. The
health club was at basement level and accommodated a high number of
structural columns which we decided to express by way of recessed flush
narrow beam fibre optic outlets within the pool floor.
