Gunwharf Quays is a substantial mixed use development in Portsmouth on the site of the old Naval Docks and encompasses some of the original buildings and structures. A central watercourse divides the retail and leisure section from the primarily residential area. The lighting has been designed to create visual interest and excitement around the leisure section with a more tranquil approach to the residential areas. Elements such as cranes and the water have been illuminated to provide points of interest. The internal lighting of the shops and restaurants also form an important part of the total picture, and the result has been a huge success.
