Piccadilly Square, Manchester |
|
dpa lighting consultants were part of the project team for the £10 million regeneration of Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens. The square at Piccadilly Gardens has been for many years the central hub of Manchester's public transport system. The square is only five minutes' walk from the mainline Manchester Piccadilly railway station and 10 minutes walk from Manchester Victoria railway station. We worked in close collaboration with landscape architects EDAW, Japanese architect Tadao Ando and lighting artist Peter Fink to develop a sympathetic lighting design which is fully integrated with both the landscape and architectural design. Piccadilly Gardens incorporates a new green space and central fountains and a pavilion by Tadao Ando which partially functions to shield the gardens from the adjacent transport interchange. The resulting design has successfully transformed the gardens into a 21st Century urban space. |
