dpa were commissioned to redesign the lighting for this flagship car showroom in the heart of London. The project was particularly challenging as the refurbishment involved the retention of the majority of the existing ceiling and so a lighting solution had to be developed which could use the existing ceiling profiles. Track mounted spotlights employing cool white metal halide lamps were used to provide flexible display lighting for the cars and the recessed track was installed into ceiling troughs which had previously been used to house fixed low voltage downlights. The cool white theme complemented both the brand image as well as the architectural style. Integrated lighting to the reception desk and simple decorative semi-recessed luminaires were used in the entrance zone. In contrast to the cool white lighting, warm white light sources were chosen for the private sales areas in order to provide a feeling of comfort for customers using these areas. dpa were pleased with the lighting to the refurbished showroom and the successful switch from warm white low voltage lighting to predominantly cool white discharge sources demonstrated the key role of colour temperature in the retail environment. |
