| The
pool terrace became an important extension to the interior
of the hotel, by way of an inviting and atmospheric
external area that not only accommodated leisure activity
during the daytime but social functions and events at
night. It was important for the architectural lighting
of the building to create an appropriate backdrop to
the terrace, incorporating lighting solutions that complimented
the exterior envelope of the building in a sympathetic
and controlled manner. More human scale lighting application
was made by way of expressing the soft and hard landscaping
at low level, with particular emphasis made of the perimeter
planting and pool deck.
Luminaries
and lamps had to be carefully selected, taking in to
consideration issues of surface temperature, intensity,
colour rendering, optical performance, durability and
maintenance. For example, the grid pattern of the pool
terrace was expressed by way of blue LED lights with
a frosted glass cover, recessed flush in to the deck.
It was important to control the intensity of the lighting
and in this way we were able to create lighting scenes
that could relate to the varying activities and time
of day.
