The architects ESA conceived this development
as a landmark building adjacent to one of London’s main
arterial routes – the A4 and of course practical and exciting
office space. The louvred façade coupled with transparent
central and perimeter vertical circulation spaces provided exciting
lighting opportunities. The helix stair in the main Atrium with
its sculptural form provided an excellent lighting opportunity,
as did the strong use of colour.
Narrow beam projectors graze light vertically over the external
louvres creating control drama. The lighting of the interior
spaces focussed on the vertical surfaces to encourage transparency
and produce a dramatic night time view.
The light sources were primarily long life low energy units
thus maximising current lamp technology to ensure the long-term
maintainability and efficiency of the installation.
The result of the project is an iconic
landmark building as desired at the outset.
