A new theatre located on the site of the existing, the internal volumes are a response to the tight site conditions. Perceived as a performance drum, the entrances (2 levels), bars and restaurant, offices and stage facilities are all attached to but separate from the ‘Drum’. Separation by roof glazing allows the ingress of natural light and a powerful expression of the interior and activity by night, achieved by ensuring illumination of surfaces in an appropriate manner.
