Coloured
Glass Entrance
The artwork is intended to be visible in both natural and
artificial light, with the overall appearance changing as
ambient lighting conditions vary. Martin Donlan drew influences
of the sea and pebbles to create the design. Simple wall
wash lighting provides the vibrant glow from within.
Entrance Artwork Signage
The monolithic and slender linear signage is enhanced by
up lighting the entire length with a linear up light. This
provides an even soft but effective wash of light up the
height of the signage which doubles as a retaining wall
for the ramp behind. Appropriate louvres were used to reduce
glare from pedestrians and push light directly to the signage.
These key elements compliment a relatively bland urban space
and provide a vibrant focal point to the Discovery Centre.
In addition to the external lighting, the internal lighting
has been carefully integrated into the existing 1960's "egg
crate" ceiling to provide a striking and architecturally
sympathetic solution providing up lit and down lit lighting
components.
