Project:
Apicius Restaurant, Tokyo, Japan

The Apicius Restaurant is well known in Tokyo for it’s gastronomic excellence and dpa are proud to have been involved in the recent refurbishment of the venue.

The interior designers for the project, mec design international corp., have created a sophisticated feel for the interior of a high standard to match that of the French cuisine served to clients. The use of timber panels with art nouveau style references adorn the walls throughout the main restaurant areas with the private dining rooms given individual treatment to heighten the sense of luxury.

The lighting design by dpa included reinforcing the rhythms of the panelling and on bringing out the material qualities of the timber, highlighting artwork, illuminating ceiling features and on creating a carefully balanced sense of drama within the restaurant and bar areas. Careful consideration was given to the integration of lighting within the interior and our work included significant research into art nouveau styling in order to make appropriate recommendations with regard to decorative lighting fixtures.
