Many congratulations to Rachael Nicholls on winning the ’40under40 – Voices’ competition held on 23rd November 2016 at LuxLive 2016, and also to Shayne Grist who took part in the event.
Both Rachael and Shayne were asked to pitch a two-minute idea on the subject, “How can lighting save the world?”.
Rachael’s idea was to form a platform or organisation of lighting design professionals with the intention of making lighting design affordable and accessible for projects that benefit people.
In total six lighting designers took part, and after some tough questions from the judges, Rachael’s idea was selected as the winner!
We are delighted to announce that Deeksha Surendra has joined dpa’s Dubai studio as a Senior Designer further expanding our team in the Middle East.
Deeksha has in the past, worked in lighting design and architecture practices in India and UK. After graduating in architecture and having worked in architectural practices for a few years, Deeksha’s interest in the symbiotic nature of art and architecture led her to pursue a Master’s degree in a multidisciplinary art course in Edinburgh. It was here that she was introduced to lighting design, baking and running. Now she pursues at least 2 of the 3 at any given time. Deeksha is also a registered member of the Council of Architecture in India.
Shown above is an image that Deeksha has selected that is inspirational to her, and below a short verse that Deeksha has written about her chosen image.
At dawn, a bonfire is lit
A giant orb looming, in silence we gather,
A year has gone by, we await the beginning of another
With hope, love and light
(Auroville, India – January 1, every year)
