Hilton Hotel,

The Hilton Hotel Rotterdam has recently undergone a refurbishment of the public areas, rooms and external building and landscape to this iconic 1960’s building designed by Dutch architect Hugh Maaskant.

dpa have been fortunate to work with both RPW interior designers and Hilton’s in-house design group to realise what will be an appropriate evolution of the beautifully conceived hotel. We also worked closely with the local architect PBV architects for the external areas.

The projects construction has been phased to ensure the hotel remained operational throughout the construction phase with the Stadshal Bar & Restaurant being completed first along with the guestrooms and corridors.

A simple yet striking interior scheme is enhanced with lighting at all levels to accentuate the diverse materials and bring out finishes, provide sparkle and reflection within the restaurant and bar spaces. Lighting is coordinated and concealed within the interior fabric of the building to enhance the visual appearance throughout the day and night activities. Lighting control is automated and provides an essential balance to the large glazed window frontage to provide intimate settings at night.
