L'Espirt du 12ème at the Pullman Hotel Paris, Bercy

Restaurants & Bars

In September 2013 dpa lighting consultants completed the lighting scheme for the refurbished restaurant ‘L’Esprit du 12ème’ at the Pullman Hotel in Paris’ 12th arrondissement in Bercy.

The interior designers for the project, design-squared, created a modern and exciting space inspired by the history of the Bercy wine warehouses and the materials used and the lighting combine to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

A sculptural wooden ‘Vine’ that cuts across the restaurant, divides the space and creates interesting contrast between open spaces and more intimate areas. To enhance the three dimensional angled contours and the overall shape lighting is used to create very dramatic strong shadows on the floor which mirror the shape of the Vine.

A feature-internally lit wine display unit to the restaurant, given pride of place in the entrance, is an eye-catching 400-bottle display case.
Along the three main walls banquette seating offers a choice of seating options. The feature wallpaper behind is softly uplit with warm white LED lighting built behind into the back of the furniture and knitted decorative pendant lights are mounted above the tables.

The openings between the wooden slats of the Vine allow glimpses into the semi-open intimate private dining space and sight of the deep red lit artwork wall.

L’Esprit du 12ème is used as an all-day dining space for the hotel so the lighting design had to be flexible and allow various scenarios and levels of light for the different times of the day.
Also part of the refurbishment was the lighting to a new lobby bar which forms the new focal point on arrival at the hotel.
