'Three Architects' Exhibition,

Museums & Galleries

dpa were asked by Richard Rogers Partnership to assist them with the lighting of their exhibits as part of the Three Architect Exhibition held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London.

Whilst we wanted to create a dramatic and memorable experience for the visitors to the Exhibition, rather than follow the conventional solution of blacking out the room and brightly spotlighting each exhibit, we decided on an alternative approach. Niches were created within feature walls which allowed us to locally highlight the models within these areas from close, but discreet downlights.

A stunning impact for the main feature River Thames crossing was achieved by not actually lighting the model at all, but strongly illuminating the plain white wall to create a silhouette effect.
