Cotswold Perfumery Apartments, Bourton-on-the-Water, UK

Situated in the heart of the Cotswolds at Bourton-on-the-Water, the 300 year old Grade II listed Cotswold Perfumery building, offers two luxury Five Star Gold Award apartments, overlooking the village centre and River Windrush. The integration of lighting techniques that would best reflect the quality of the Perfumery and provide a personalised and intimate residential experience was of paramount importance to the client, with the intention to encourage visitor’s to stay over in Bourton and perhaps use this location as a base to explore the area.

dpa worked very closely with the client, who undertook all of the electrical installation works himself, to provide an imaginative lighting scheme that would serve to highlight the key architectural features and compliment the modern interior design colour palette, materials and furniture. A radio controlled lighting control scene set system was ideal for the project as this reduced the extent of cabling required through the deep load bearing walls and the general disturbance of the building fabric.

The visitor can select from a number of lighting intensities/scenes to coincide with the time of day and natural light ingress in to the space.

Century Penthouse, Jersey

Century Apartments are located on the Esplanade in Jersey with panoramic views of St Aubin’s and Elizabeth Castle. The penthouse is a split-level development with internal balconies. Full use is made of the lighting controls to totally transform the moods of the spaces to exactly suit the requirements of the users. We worked closely with the Interior Designers to help create a fully integrated, contemporary lighting installation specifically tailored to each room.

The lamps are recessed within the fixtures to reduce their visual brightness from normal viewing angles whilst providing total flexibility of adjustment to facilitate highlighting of accurate illumination. Minimising the surface brightness of the fixtures also avoids any unwanted, obtrusive reflections from the windows at night, thus enabling the stunning views to be appreciated at all times.

Artwork Lighting, London, UK

This traditional interior with its Adam style decorative plaster ceiling presented dpa with a lighting problem that required a unique solution. Our Client commissioned our services to find a way of lighting an oil painting without damaging the ceiling or wall panelling in any way. The solution was to light the painting from small adjustable low voltage spotlights cantilevered from a track, carefully integrated into the mouldings at the top of the wall. The track and spotlights have been finished in a colour to match the ceiling, further reducing the visual appearance of the lighting equipment.

Private Residence, UK

The blend of varying lighting techniques such as, picture lighting, downlighting to tables, uplighting to doorways, ambient lighting in the form of table lamps and free-standing lights and the illumination of the centrally located fireplace are combined to stunning effect in this residential project.

An architectural lighting control system was employed to create a number of lighting scenes that could be selected, to reflect the time of day and the activity taking place in a particular space. The various lighting elements were separately circuited in order to achieve differing light levels, which was favourable in achieving a comfortably lit interior.
