After working on the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown 15 years ago, we were delighted to be asked to design the lighting for the Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre, a new cutting edge facility to deal with this particularly difficult cancer. The architecture followed the form of the original building designed by Charles Correa and was sculpted by Sachin Agshikar who worked with Charles on the original building.
Lighting plays an important part in creating a world class treatment and research centre, with carefully considered lighting techniques to make the facilities as appealing as possible for patients, doctors, and researchers. We even enhanced the operating theatres with the lighting techniques deployed. The relationship between inside and outside is fundamentally important, changing from day to night.
