We are thrilled that dpa project Hackney Town Hall has been shortlisted for an award in the inaugural dezeen awards 2018 for best civic and cultural interior. We have our fingers crossed for 27th November when winners are announced.
Louise Santiago, Senior Designer based in our Dubai Studio was recently asked to speak at the 8×8 Talks held locally in Dubai. 8×8 was created as part of United Architects of the Philippines Dubai Chapter’s first Townhall meeting. 8 Architects were given 8 minutes each to inspire and motivate others by discussing their creative processes, experiences and wisdom within their respective fields. Louise shared her Lighting Design journey with 300 professionals, alongside seven outstanding Architects from differing disciplines, practices and institutions.

We are thrilled that dpa project The Constellation at The Founder’s Memorial, Abu Dhabi has been awarded a Commendable Achievement Award in the Exterior Lighting category of the 2018 AL Light & Architecture Design Awards.
This is a very special project, and a unique one to the region. dpa were immensely proud to have been a part of the design team and to have played an important and pivotal role in the realisation of the artwork designed by talented artist Ralph Helmick.

dpa were privileged to be invited to illuminate The Constellation, a monumental public artwork that forms the centrepiece of The Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi, a permanent national tribute to the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Nikos Moskofidis, Associate based in our Dubai Studio was recently asked to be a panellist at the 7th Annual Middle East Lighting Design Summit held at the Sofitel, The Palm, Dubai. The panel discussed “Rethinking Urban Lighting Design Concepts and Techniques”, during which Nikos highlighted he importance of context in our approach to urban lighting and how we embrace the existing environment.
We are delighted that dpa project Hackney Town Hall has been awarded an RIBA Regional Award in the ‘Buildings Refurbishment’ category. Many congratulations to Architects Hawkins Brown and Hackney Council on winning this prestigious award!
We are delighted that dpa project the Tiffany Gallery at the New-York Historical Society won ‘Leisure Project of the Year’ at the recent Lighting Design Awards 2018. In addition Mei Ume was also awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Hotel and Restaurant Project’ of the Year category.
We are also very proud to announce that Iain Carlile and Louise-Mari Santiago were named in the Lighting Design Awards 40 under forty programme!
In celebration of the Practice reaching its 60th Anniversary, the Lighting Design Awards produced a short film about dpa which was shown at the event. Please see below a link to the film, which pays tribute to Derek Phillips and the longevity of the Practice.

dpa Senior Designer Johanna Medina was delighted to be asked to present a lecture on Lighting Design to students studying Fashion Retail Management at the University of the Arts, London, London College of Fashion. The lecture aimed to help students understand the principles of lighting design, how to build meaningful connections and emotionally engage with today’s enlightened consumers, values and ethical practices.
