RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 – The Asthma and Lung Breathing Space Garden by Angus Thompson

dpa was delighted to do the lighting design for Angus Thompson’s stunning garden, which won a Silver medal at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Sponsored by grant-giving charity Project Giving Back, The Asthma and Lung Breathing Space Garden is conceived as a restorative “breathing space” for people living with lung conditions. Accessible paths, therapeutic planting, and a tranquil platform for breath-focused practices come together to create a place to pause, regain strength, and reconnect with both self and others.

The garden will be relocated to the Breathing Space Lung Rehabilitation centre in Rotherham, supported by Asthma and Lung UK and maintained in partnership with the local community.

Strengthening our BIM Team in the Dubai studio

Nick Hoggett joined a panel at Clerkenwell Design Week, hosted by Helen Ankers ([d]arc Magazine), exploring “How to be brilliant at designing with light”. Part of the [d]arc Thoughts series with the ILP , the panel also featured Sally Storey (Lighting Design International) and Keith Bradshaw (Spiers Major Light Architecture).

Michael Curry

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that after battling with cancer for several years, Michael passed away peacefully last Wednesday, 1^st April 2026. Our thoughts are with his wife, Bryony, the rest of his family, friends and colleagues.

Michael had been at dpa for 27 years and was an extremely important part of the Practice’s success. Michael’s passion and attention to detail for lighting design, his chosen craft, never faltered. He was dedicated to producing the very best lighting designs he possibly could and sharing his knowledge and experience with others. Michael always had time to support, encourage, and spare time for his colleagues. The list of projects Michael contributed to is immense, many of which won awards and received acclaim. Michael remained dedicated to his projects and present in the studio up until the last few weeks.

Michael was not only excellent at his chosen profession, but he was also a wonderful person, who will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him and that worked with him.
